I use the Google toolbar (and the Firebird equivalent) and I just noticed my Google page rank is 7/10.
I think I need to find out just what this page rank business is about.
It's basically how much google "trusts" you. It fits into their secret algorithm for determining which sites come up in searches before others. It's based on a lot of things. The ones that are known are how many people link to you, how many links you have to other people, and how well googlebot understands your mark up. People who use good titles and hn tags will get a boost in PageRank.

See, that's the question!
It's basically how much google "trusts" you.
Seriously, the little pop-up when you mouse oiver the page rank meter says it's a measure of "importance," which can't possibly be, given my own understanding of the word.
I don't plug my post titles into the page title tags because, well, because. But the way I write them, I don't think they'd give me much of a boost.
Posted by P6 at June 5, 2004 08:45 AMIs there money in it? Sure. Google AdWords. If a page of yours is more likely to be at the top of a search because you have a high PageRank, more people are likely to see. If you think running ads in not a good idea then no, there probably isn't any money in it ;-)

Now that I'm thinking of it, I think the guy who started one of the more successful tech sites, Gizmodo I think, wrote an article about making money with ads on blogs. Maybe I'll look it up.
