Study Supports Race-Bias Suit Against Honda
By Caroline E. Mayer

Black customers are much more likely than white buyers to be charged markups on loans financed by American Honda Finance Corp., according to a study done for minority borrowers who have sued the auto lender.

The lawsuit, one of several class actions filed against major auto financiers in recent years, alleges that Honda discriminated against black car buyers by charging them higher interest rates when they financed their cars at dealerships through the lending arm. The study by Vanderbilt University business professor Mark A. Cohen found that 43.3 percent of Honda's African American borrowers were charged a markup, compared with 22.2 percent of white borrowers.

Of those charged a markup, blacks paid an average $557, compared with $227 for whites. The study found that the disparities occurred even when borrowers of different races had the same creditworthiness.

Forest for the trees p6- Cheney has a former staffer working as the head of Toyata. She's going all over the country trying to "roll back" EPA standards for one magical propsed assembly plant.

She has covered the whole map in efforts to get local Politicos (even at COngressional level) to go with the roll-backs.

We have a new coal facility here (not running) which has case foundry pours not to standard to even run.

Enron bailed on the poject. No problem whatsoever. They don't need to run, they can take the credits they have and sell them other coal facilities so they can pollute more so than ever.

An EPA rollback would only help more. A nice bit of pollution from me to you. And just think how much utility rates can overcharge for "startup" fees here. And power swaps from regions/state on paper only that become rolling blackouts...

SO it is a two edged sword. Take out Toyata's comp, and get your most closely vested ties undertaken.

Is it the business' fault or the banks who underwrite these loans? How many of them are getting called out? They also do home/personal/college loans p6.

Widen the scope of reform there...

Can anyone find details of this report? I think it's another example where the case is singularly made on a racial basis and no other factors are considere. I doubt that the researcher would be so dunderheaded, but clearly the media is not giving us any other dimensions.
