I wish I had something pithy to add.

Right now I'm reading Solzhenitsyn's The Gulag Archipelago (in English). Gives a whole new meaning to violence. Those negros in the former Soviet Union were horrendously violent.

What? What's that you say? They aren't negros? But I thought it was just negros that are a violent people! My bad.

Does anyone know if, once you correct for economic and family status (poor and single moms) black men are any more violent than whites? I've seen that study done for other groups - the crime rate for Japanese-Americans is almost zero, no matter what generation they are and how rich or poor. And I've seen done with black and white women (they were really close, within a few percentage points) But I've never seen it for black men.

Baldi, a friend of mine lived through the gulags. He tells stories that make you want to puke, and he says he doesn't tell us about the really bad stuff. Read One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich and, if you can find it, The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov,

To be honest Richard, it's not the sort of information I've ever sought out. Anecdotally I can say I've seen no difference.

Your answer was just about like mine when I read it. "Because 'those people' are human just like everyone else?"
