Kouncil of Konservative Kitizens

via Daily Kos, up in his new digs a picture of Haley Barbour, former chief of the Republican Party and current Mississipi Gubernatorial candidate hanging out with the Klan.

Does the C of CC oppose racism?
The word racism was concocted by a communist ideologue in the 1920's. The purpose of racism was to instill guilt and shame in the minds of white people and to inflame racial hostility among blacks. This word play succeeded beyond all expectations. Of course, the word racism has no meaning unless whites react to it. Because racism defines nothing, but instead generates dubious connotations, the C of CC refuses to be held hostage by what the word implies at any given moment. It is normal for white people to be proud of their race and heritage, is that racist?

This is the face of the current Republican Party. The GOP elders may point to Arnold, but the power is held by people like Barbour, Lott, and DeLay.

The picture was taken July 19 of this year. This can't be chalked up to "youthful indiscretion" or ignorance. Barbour knew exactly what he was doing.

Are we yet satisfied?

Let me be clear. White folks have as much ground to be proud of their race as anyone else. But you don't have to be a hater to do that. And the CCC is an organization of haters.

SPLITTING HAIRS: Okay, not "white race." But European cultures have created much art, music, science, beauty…as much as any other culture. I happen to like Bach a lot…I have a thing for recursion in general. I recognize the Euopean influences on my development as much as the African…though Asian philosophies have had been the greater part of my intellectual training.

god those pinheads make me mad. they get more and more brazen every day.

p6, we may end up respectfully disagreeing on this, or you may think it's unnecessarily splitting hairs, but i'm not sure the "white race" has anything to be proud of, because i'm not entirely certain there is any such thing. notwithstanding the sometimes beyond the pale [sorry!] rhetoric of racetraitor.org and similar schools of thought, i take extreme exception to the CCC's claim that there is such a thing as "white culture", because scratch "white culture" hard enough and you find under it culture that is shared by [one might say, was borrowed from...one might even say, was stolen from] a diversity of people that had nothing to do with the fact that some of them had varying shades of pigment in their skin.

there is identifiably a european culture, and diverse fragments thereof, yet even within that vast conglomeration one finds subsects that the white supremacist view as "not white enough". i mean, how can one not think of judaica as european???

whiteness is a distinction that has historically been celebrated for no good reason. personally, i celebrate the entwined branches of my viking and celtic/gaelic heritage, which includes a rich history of both shame and honor; i celebrate also the hidden heritage of the ancestors my family may have kept secret, be they native american, african, etc. but to me, the appellation "white" is an old-fashioned conceit that merely connotes that i am "not-colored", and i don't think it any inherently great that i am not-anything in particular. except [hopefully more often than not] not-ignorant, and we're all born ignorant.

sometimes i make myself laugh by taking the words of these pinheads and exchanging the word "pink" for "white" in everything they say. try it. it'll give you a chuckle.

A bit more precise than necessary, I think. Particularly in light of the post the other day aboutthe Black guy whose genetic test came back with no African influences other than the obvious of being human in the first place. But the post has been modified, I hope, appropriately.

whew, thanks for validating me there, i thought i was maybe going to need to increase my dosage. and i think we basically agree on these major points: european culture does not equal "white culture", and all human beings share african roots. [loreena mckennitt has done some interesting musicological explorations into the miscegenation between celtic nomadic music and the music of africa; i think it's somewhere in one of the documentaries she contributed to for the CBC. i'll see if i can find it.]
