Wal-Mart heiress returns degree to USC
(10-19) 15:58 PDT Los Angeles (AP) --

Wal-Mart heiress Elizabeth Paige Laurie, accused of paying a fellow college student $20,000 to do her homework, has returned her University of Southern California degree, officials said.

The move came nearly a year after Laurie's freshman-year roommate, Elena Martinez, told the ABC newsmagazine "20/20" that she had written term papers and done assignments for the heiress for 3 1/2 years.

"Paige Laurie voluntarily has surrendered her degree and returned her diploma to the university. She is not a graduate of USC," the school said in a statement dated Sept. 30. "This concludes the university's review of the allegations concerning Ms. Laurie."

I wonder if there's any tony colleges left where *I* could score a Masters for a mere 20K.  I don't just wanna' be "overqualified" when I grovel to temp agencies for a shot at $10 per/hr.  I wanna' be OVERoverqualified. [cue the theme from "Rocky."]

This isn't even uncommon.

I have a niece who recently graduated from Pomona. She was in the "tutoring" business for a while. One doesn't have to look too hard to find trust funders who buy their way through.

and that's just the thing...i didn't go to Pomona, but i went to a high school that churned out Pomona types - and Stanford types and Berkeley types (even though it was in Pennsylvania) and i clearly see how often this sort of thing occurs...and yet, when the convo rolls around to AA (not Al-Anon) folks seem to get oh, so forgetful.

P6...if ya think folks don't know the nuances and parameters, think again. we are all surrounded by it.
