David Brooks, arch Conservative insider and mouthpiece for the most destructive administration in the nations' history, says government is a necessity.
We’re entering an era of epic legislation. There are at least five large problems that will compel the federal government to act in gigantic ways over the next few years....In an intricately connected world, even Republican administrations cannot allow big institutions to fail. If government is going to guarantee against failure, then it is inevitably going to get more involved in regulating how businesses are run.
Oh. My. Gawd. Grover Norquist has just been pimp-slapped! What shall he do?

The remarkable thing is, he correctly identifies the issues of concern.
First, there is the erosion of the social contract....Second, there is the energy shortage...Third, there is the stagnation in human capital...Fourth, there’s financial market reform...Fifth, there’s infrastructure reform.
This makes him particularly culpable, by the way (I cut out the supporting statement which imply all this is simply reactions to the Real World rather than the result of choices actively made because he's not making anything of them this time around).
The totally unremarkable thing is, due to his need to insist McCain is relevant somehow, he churns out an irrelevant comparison to a hero of a foriegn country's incompatible political system, and an American President from the days when it would take weeks to even find out what your government is discussing (Pony Express, anyone?)
Still, mark this day on your calendar. It's a tipping point of sorts.

Brooks only believes that
Brooks only believes that big government is necessary if it bails out the corporations that he fronts for.
