Let us recap. No, let us sum up

Having just checked the RSS feeds, I find Oliver Willis has a nice, concise summary of the evidence of the Bushista's lack of concern for American life and interests when it conflicts with their political aspirations.

Two points:

One, if you really want to understand any group of people, understand what divisions lie amongst them. The USA is so big that the two main political parties represent de facto coalitions, the GOP of three parties and the Dems of four. GOP:

  1. Christian (or other cultural) chauvinists; most likely to invoke states' rights

  2. business-oriented conservatives (opposed to costly regulations; may favor protective tariffs/subsidies, but conversely may be principled free traders); favor lower taxes
  3. the category of political officals & their supporters who are GOP by virtue of historical connections, associations, etc.
(Apologies in advance if any GOP reader takes offense at my characterization--esp. my use of the word "chauvinist," because sometimes it's understandable and wholesome to be protective of one's culture).

Second point--Prometheus, I have faith in you, that after rebuilding your site you'll notice that the background renders comments difficult to read.

Subtle but effective.

Oliver Willis is a chunderhead who is either completely unable to check his own facts, or willfully deceitful. Either way, I've been pretty safe dismissing anything writes out of hand.

He's like Rush, but without the charisma. I think the motto on his site -- "Like Kryptonite to Stupid" -- is entirelly accurate. He is the tool stupid people use against good people.

I don't read Oliver Willis all that often myself, but now that I've learned that he's the Rush Limbaugh of the left, I may have to check him out. I had no idea he was that influential.
