A Martha Steward question

Assuming one committed a crime, given that no one can be compelled to incriminate themselves how can one be convicted of lying about it?

I don't know but there are a number of cases where people are convicted of lying to investigators about their involvement in things.

As I read it, MS is NOT convicted for lying about it, but for lying, period.

This isn't that outrageous, given that Police and Fed Resources are finite, people who cause these resources to be wasted are in effect "stealing" protection from law-abiding citizens.
