The suspense was killing me

Bush wraps up Republican nomination
3/9/2004

WASHINGTON -- President Bush wrapped up the nearly nonexistent race for the Republican presidential nomination Tuesday night by pocketing nearly every delegate up for grabs in the four Southern states that held primary elections.

Bush had 1,264 delegates, according to an Associated Press count, eclipsing the 1,255 needed for the nomination on a night when voters in Texas -- where Bush was governor -- went to the polls.

You're not surprised, right?

I'm a bit surprised people who comment don't read the article they themselve link:

It shall not be permitted to possess, bear, buy, or sell arms

... except on licensure issued in accordance with the law.

What's the law?

What if we rewrote the 2nd Amendment to this? Would you not agree that amounted to ending the right to keep and bear arms? Does that not end private gun ownership? Or has the NRA been pulling my leg all these years?

Well, afaik there's none.

So guns will be banned if a majority of Iraqi reps is in favour of banning them.

Very likely in some states, less likely in others.

When right-wingers support this kind of law in the U.S., then I'll stop considering them hypocrites. But to enact this on Iraq while opposing even the smallest step in this direction in the U.S. is ludicrous and deserves criticism.

It is not ludicrous to leave the implementation details of gun-licensing to the Iraqis themselves. It's more or less consistent with their position on fostering democracy there.

Excuse me for conjecturing, but I think if a Republican government would try to put Republican ideology into the Iraqi basic law in order to avoid your accusation of hypocrisy, you would criticise them for doing just that.

Died laughing. Goodbye everyone!
