There's a few folks that read the Google cache instead of P6 directly. I see it because Google caches the Sitemeter counter.

Why?

Either to check if the page was changed, or to hide your IP address from the siteowner, without bothering to go through a proxy.

Speaking from personal experience, I have noticed a correlation between being portscanned and me leaving critical comments on some extreme left fora.

Well, the IP hiding is a wash because Sitemeter suppies that. And I'm setting up periodic database backups for disaster recovery purposes.

You also could use the google cache if you want to hide the search term from the siteowner, but are to lazy to copy-and-paste the url.
