LONDON, Nov 23 - Women make up nearly half of the 37.2 million adults living with HIV and in sub-Saharan Africa the proportion rises to almost 60 percent, according to a UN report released on Tuesday.

"Increasingly the face of AIDS is young and female," said Dr Kathleen Cravero, deputy executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

I can't really comment on the article as I'm too lazy to register at the Post, but I think that there are still many women that believe they won't get HIV from a straight man.  I've been with black males that do not automatically reach for condoms when they're about to have sex, so apparently, some women are just not insisting on it.

I think there a lot of women who think they won't get AIDS from their man.

And I know there still a lot of folks that associate AIDS with dirtiness or sin.

The faith-based response would be that God let loose this plague upon the land because we allow this wicked evil to go down. Or on.  Whatever.  Meanwhile, they compassionately let the plague rage on unchecked, leaving devastation and death in its, ahem, wake.
