Colbert assumes Bush and the Neocons aren't depending on the schism

Quote of note:

...it's not every day that the likes of Abshire; Max Kampelman, the former chief negotiator on strategic arms reduction with the Soviet Union; Togo West Jr., president of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, a black think tank; Zbigniew Brzezinski, Jimmy Carter's national security adviser; Jeane Kirkpatrick, Ronald Reagan's U.N. ambassador; Thomas "Mack" McLarty, Bill Clinton's former chief of staff; and Jane Dixon, former bishop pro tempore of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, can come together on a single subject.

Bridging the Great Divide

The top domestic news over the last week has been pretty much the 55th presidential inauguration and confirmation battles on Capitol Hill. But what shows up on the tube at 6 and 11 o'clock doesn't necessarily consist of the most significant doings in town. For example, two Washington events leading up to George Bush's Big Bash completely escaped the camera's eye. In the long run, however, they could be every bit as consequential as the president's Inauguration Day declarations or the confirmation votes.

The schisms exacerbated by catastrophic Neocon miscalculation VASTLY exceed even Neocon capacity to harness and manage. Bottom-line, they bit off a whole lot more than they could chew. Scope-creep is fixing to whip around and bite Bushco very hard in the ass.

I enjoy listening to bible-thumper fringe radio, and the invectives against Bush for having played this block of support are beginning to mount up.

Same for immigration policy.

If someone Ross Perot-like were to re-emerge on the domestic political scene, that individual could inflict some heavy blows on both the democrat party and the gop.

Agreed, but I'm convinced they will "stay the course."
