on Random rant

At some point, I'm not exactly sure when, we stopped thinking about what we actually do. Somewhere along the line, we started judging our actions by the "message" it "sends" rather than its direct impact. Somehow the construction and assignment of strawmen has become the accepted mode of political discourse.

What message does that send?

That American politics have failed and only through independent action outside of the political spectrum can TRUE CHANGE happen.

The message that an action sends is a large part of its impact in the real world. That shoudln't be used as a cover for gross injustice, but failure to keep it in mind can mean having small victories to set up huge defeats.

The problem is that the "message" has become the primary justification for actions. Which wouldn't worry me if I felt people actually knew what message they're sending.
