Israel Says It Will Dismantle Barrier at Palestinian Town
By GREG MYRE
JERUSALEM, Feb. 21 — Israel plans to begin dismantling a small section of its separation barrier on Sunday, the Defense Ministry said Saturday. The move to take down about five miles of fencing that has isolated a Palestinian town will take place a day before an international court hearing on the barrier is scheduled to begin in the Netherlands.
I was also pleased to hear that Israel was planning to do remove some settlements in Gaza, until I heard on the news that the Israeli government had earmarked a couple million dollars for new settlements in the West Bank. It reminds me a lot of the Bush Administration.
Posted by Al-Muhajabah at February 22, 2004 08:37 AMThe timing is what reminded me of the Bushistas. I hadn't heard about the new settlements but frankly I assumed they'd do this.
Posted by P6 at February 22, 2004 01:43 PMBBC News was reporting it some time in the last week (the radio station I listen to in the mornings broadcasts a BBC news feed). I'm not surprised either, and I won't be surprised at the response from Palestinian radical groups.
