On Monday's program, he had said: "I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it…. We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability."

WASHINGTON -- Televangelist Pat Robertson apologized today for calling for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, but separately said he had been misinterpreted.
Is it right to call for assassination? No, and I apologize for that statement," Robertson said in a statement issued by his Christian Broadcasting Network.
