He said it again!

Jim Webb was asked about his position on affirmative action, having called it government sponsored racism in the past.

He said affirmative action was supposed to address the result of slavery specifically, that it had been expanded to the point that only white men were left out. His solution? Because Black people are the only ones the government consciously stepped on, only Black people should be eligible for affirmative action.

I heard him say that on Meet the Press, but I wasn't sure I should repeat it...but he did. I don't know if I'm more surprised or  impressed.

Damn! I can honestly say that I've never heard any politican speak to this matter in this way. Really sensible, and courageous for him to do it. He'll probably lose the election though!

Now that the SCOTUS has put a time limit on the whole enterprise, it's the only position that can be spun into near universal acceptability. Just add, "And I agree there must come a time when affirmative action ends...when black Americans stand or fall  on their own merits."

Yeah. The time limit thing is really tragic in my opinion. I hope he, the candidate, hasn't sign off on this true court rendering, and the fallacy it attempts to project.
