Rachel's Tavern

Here we go!!! The 4th Erases Racism Carnival is here. Although there was no unifying theme, there does seem to be a general trend in the submissios. They all use deconstruction to challenge the ways that we look at race. For those unfamiliar with the term deconstruction. Here is a quote from Wikipedia:

The term deconstruction was coined by French philosopher Jacques Derrida in the 1960s and is used in contemporary humanities and social sciences to denote a philosophy of meaning that deals with the ways that meaning is constructed by writers, texts, and readers and understood by readers. One way of understanding the term is that it involves discovering, recognizing, and understanding the underlying — and unspoken and implicit — assumptions, ideas, and frameworks that form the basis for thought and belief.

The posts submitted fall broadly into two categories: deconstructing media/pop culture and deconstructing Whiteness and racism.

"deconstructing Whiteness and racism."

There's a lot of irony in that  juxtaposition, given the intellectual origins of deconstructionism -re: Heidegger, De Man.

There's a lot of irony in life, my friend.

Indeed. If irony could run automobiles gas would be ten cents a gallon.
